Extract text from a PDF
Pull the text out of a PDF into a plain .txt file you can edit, search or paste anywhere. It works with PDFs that already contain selectable text.
Export locally
Text export works when the PDF already contains selectable text. PNG export renders selected pages in your browser and downloads one image per page.
How to use the PDF to Text tool
- Select one PDF file.
- Optionally enter pages such as 1-3, 5; leave blank for every page.
- Click Extract text. A .txt file downloads with a heading for each page.
Questions
Why does a page say no selectable text was found?
That page is probably a scanned image. PDF Vault extracts existing text and does not run OCR, so scanned pages have no text to extract.
Is formatting kept?
No. The output is plain text, one block per page, which makes it easy to paste into other apps. Tidy it up with the Text Vault whitespace cleaner if needed.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The text is extracted in your browser and downloaded directly.
