Required GPA Calculator
Set your goal GPA and tell us where you stand now. We will work out exactly what you need to average over your remaining semesters to get there.
How this calculator works
To raise your cumulative GPA you need to earn enough quality points in your remaining semesters to pull the weighted average up to your target. The more credits you have already completed, the harder it is to move the number because your existing record carries a lot of weight.
This calculator figures out the exact GPA you need to average each semester going forward. It also breaks down what that looks like semester by semester so you have a concrete plan rather than just a vague goal.
If the required GPA comes back above 4.0 it means your target is mathematically out of reach given your current standing and remaining credits. In that case you may want to adjust your target or look into whether your school allows grade forgiveness or academic renewal policies.
Frequently asked questions
How to use your required GPA result
The required GPA per semester this calculator shows you is the minimum average you need to hit your goal. Think of it as a floor, not a ceiling. If you want breathing room for a tough semester, a difficult elective, or unexpected life events aim a few tenths of a point above the required number every semester. That buffer adds up over time and gives you more flexibility later in your degree.
If the required GPA comes back above 4.0, your current goal is out of reach mathematically given your remaining credits. The honest move is to recalibrate. Try lowering your target GPA by small increments to find a realistic goal, then work backwards from there. A 3.4 that you can actually achieve is more valuable than a 3.7 that requires perfect grades in every remaining course.
It is also worth knowing that grade forgiveness policies at many schools allow you to retake a course and replace the original grade. If you have an early F or D on your record from a course you could retake, that might move your starting GPA more efficiently than any number of future semesters can.
